Ford Ecosport AWD spotted testing in AWD guise.
Posted by: Shreyas Agarwal - Mon-May-2019, 10:10 PM - Forum: Mainstream Cars and Bikes - Replies (1)

An AWD variant of the Ford Ecosport has been spotted doing rounds in Coimbatore. The AWD variant is an international variant, probably from the US. Visually, the tailgate without a spare wheel and the badging are the only striking differences. But on a closer look, one can also find different wiper blades and all disc brakes on the car.
It comes with a similar twin slat grill with wraparound headlamps and L shaped DRLs. Like the India spec variant, it has a floating touchscreen.
The Ecosport AWD is currently on sale in Brazil, UK and the US. In the US the Ecosport SE AWD is powered by a 2.0-litre Ti-VCT producing a healthy 166 bhp and 202 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6 speed AT. In other markets too the same 2.0-litre engine is utilised for AWD variants.
The likelihood of an AWD variant being launched in India is very low, thanks to the lack of a customer base, but the slumbering sales of Ecosport thanks to the XUV300 and upcoming Hyundai Venue, might have triggered the Ford management to consider the launch of an AWD. And, if it is launched, it might not cost a bomb, because Ford exports the Ecosport AWD to foreign markets from India.
The Ecosport which had been the market starter has now been relegated to the bottom end of the spectrum and things have been worrying for Ford India as a whole, with no eggs to put in any basket. It has also been speculated that Ford might end independent operations in India and may start a JV with Mahindra having a majority stake.

Next-Generation Audi RS3 spotted testing at Nürburgring!
Posted by: Varun_HexaGuy - Mon-May-2019, 08:50 PM - Forum: The International Automotive Scene - Replies (1)

The next-generation of the Audi RS3 was spotted testing at the Nürburgring. It was expected since the next generation Audi A3 and S3 were spotted testing very recently. The RS3 is rumoured to be an early test mule which was spotted testing.

The first sightings of the new A3/S3 showed heavily masked test cars, this vehicle has no exterior camouflage and actually uses the body of the current model. If you take a closer look at the side shots, however, you’ll notice the wider wheel arches housing super low-profile tires. This hints at a slightly wider track compared to the RS3 that’s still on sale.
Compared to the previous A3/S3 prototypes we’ve seen, one major difference is the exhaust layout which incorporates two massive oval pipes here. On the positive side, seeing this mule performing high-speed tests, it encourages us to expect more revealing spy shots in the near-future.

It is expected that the RS3 will carry over the existing 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbocharged engine which is tuned to deliver a bit more power than the current 400 horsepower. More importantly, it is expected to have an improved exhaust gas filtration system will make the hot hatch greener and will allow it to meet the latest emissions standards across Europe.

Scoop! Hyundai Venue caught at a dealer's stockyard before launch!
Posted by: Varun_HexaGuy - Mon-May-2019, 08:34 PM - Forum: Mainstream Cars and Bikes - Replies (1)

Hyundai is expected to launch the all-new hyundai Venue. Hyundai had unveiled the car late last month on a sea cruise and Hyundai had hinted the launch wasn't far away. Hyundai is all-set to launch the Venue tomorrow at 12 p.m. We managed to spot the car uncamouflaged a day before its launch at a dealer's stock yard.

The car which we've spotted is the top-end SX(O) trim with all the goodies one can come to expect from a Hyundai. Hyundai is offering the Venue in 4-trims across 13-variants; E, S, SX, SX(O). The SX(O) trim comes equipped with features such as sunroof, 8-inch touchscreen with OE Telematics, ESP, 6-airbags and rear wiper over the other features from the lower variants.

The company commenced bookings for the Venue at an amount of Rs.21,000 and the compact SUV received over 2,000 bookings within a day of commencement of the online/offline reservations.

The Venue 1.2L petrol is only offered in two variants across E and S trims, while the 1.0L turbo-petrol is available in six options. Furthermore, the 1.0L petrol DCT can only be had in the S and SX+ trims. Hyundai Venue is available with seven paint schemes along with three dual-tone colour options.

The seven colour schemes are Fiery Red, Star Dust, Polar White, Deep Forest, Typhoon Silver, Lava Orange and Denim Blue. On the other hand, the three dual-tone options are Denim Blue with Polar White roof, Polar White with Phantom Black roof and Lava Orange with Phantom Black roof.

The Venue can be had with two petrol engines – a 118bhp/173Nm 1.0L turbocharged mill and an 82bhp/115Nm 1.2L Kappa motor – and a 1.4L CRDi diesel motor that makes 89bhp and 220Nm. The smaller gasoline motor is mated to a five-speed manual, while the turbo-petrol is available with a six-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT. The oil burner can only be had with a six-speed manual at launch.

  Renault Kwid facelift spotted testing
Posted by: Shreyas Agarwal - Sat-May-2019, 09:45 PM - Forum: Mainstream Cars and Bikes - Replies (1)

The Renault Kwid facelift has been spotted doing rounds in India. The Kwid facelift will be launched by the end of 2019. It comes as a response to the upcoming BSVI and BNVSAP regulations. It draws inspiration from the Renault KZE concept (Renault EV concept based on the Kwid). The facelifted mule gets a new nose with LED DRLs beside the grill and main headlamps positioned below them (A growing trend in SUVs such as Harrier, Hector, and Venue).
The facelift also brings new bumpers and new wheel caps keeping it up with the standard facelift definition.

There has been no information on the interior updates but it is speculated that the infotainment system might be updated. It may also get new upholstery and a new instrument cluster (from the KZE) refreshing the interior.
The updated Kwid is also to feature structural changes to comply with the upcoming crash test regulations. (BNVSAP).
It would continue to be offered in the same 800-cc and 1.0-litre albeit updated to meet the BSVI regulations without any changes in the power figures. Though, it is uncertain whether both engines will be updated or only one would be carried over. The same 5-speed manual and AMT gearboxes would be on offer.
The Kwid is expected to launch by 2019 end, only after the Duster facelift and the Triber MPV.

Hyundai develops an Intelligent Air Purification System
Posted by: Varun_HexaGuy - Fri-May-2019, 11:07 PM - Forum: The International Automotive Scene - Replies (1)

Hyundai Motor Group has developed an intelligent ‘Smart Air Purification system’ that monitors interior air quality to automatically filter the air inside a car. The innovation builds on the Group’s prior work to enhance in-car air quality by introducing a new automated monitoring system, which continually checks interior air quality.

Hyundai claims the technology can remove fine particulates before passengers enter the car, and purification of cabin air throughout a journey. The new development, already under consideration for future Hyundai and Kia vehicles, responds to growing concerns about the health impact of fine particulates, especially in highly-congested urban areas.

Conventional air purification systems only operate for a set period when activated, turning off after a designated time regardless of current cabin air quality. As per Hyundai, the new Smart Air Purification system constantly monitors the car’s air quality, activating the purification function if the air quality decreases to ‘Fair’ level. It then maintains the cleaning process until the air quality improves to an ‘Excellent’ level. Even if the exterior air quality is at ‘Poor’ level, the system can purify air inside to ‘Excellent’ quality.

Passengers can monitor interior air quality levels via the car’s Audio-Video navigation (AVN) screen, with a visual 16-bar digital display of air quality that fluctuates in real-time. This is categorized according to Korea Environmental Corporation Standards, which categorizes four levels of air quality based on the presence of fine particulate matter: Excellent, Good, Fair and Poor.

“Enabling our customers to breathe the cleanest air, even in highly-polluted areas, is a demonstration of how Hyundai Motor Group strives to care for its customers,” said YongSuk Shin, head of FR Interior & Exterior System Engineering Design Team. “This innovation is just one of many projects we are working on to provide our customers with the best in-car environments.”

Hyundai claims that it has designed an integrated, laser-based sensor to ensure the system’s durability and reliability. Typical sensors are prone to reliability issues as fine particulates can gradually build up on the measurement lens. A laser-based design aims at solving this problem.

The new interior purification system is paired with advanced high-performance air filters which enhance the collection rate of fine particulates from 94% to 99%. Moreover, the new filtration system features a charcoal-based deodorization function and can automatically close car windows to assist the purification process.

Rumour : 2020 Volvo S60 coming to India
Posted by: Varun_HexaGuy - Fri-May-2019, 10:40 PM - Forum: Luxury Cars and Bikes - No Replies

Jaguar XE, Mercedes C-Class, BMW 3-series, Audi A4, all are stellar performance product lines with excellent demand for their product in India. However except the C-class none of the above has actually received a 2019 upgrade that the car manufacturers brought to India.

In comes the 2020 Volvo S60 with the blessing of the all mighty Thor (I just had to make that reference consider it aftertaste of the new Avenger’s End game). In India, Volvo had a spectacular financial year, registering a growth of 25% in 2018-19. The XC40 sub-compact SUV was well received too.

Now what Volvo wants to do is, take on the Germans at a segment where they excel in the country- The premium saloon or as we say in the country, the premium sedan segment. Globally. the car was recently launched with a four-cylinder 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine offering 248bhp and 258lb ft of torque to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Though, we also expect Volvo to bring hybrid options to the game to match the V60’s engine range.

On the inside the Volvo S60 R-design is being targeted at M Sport, S-line and AMG-line variants and its styling too will be more skewed towards the sportier side.

Overall though, Volvo has settled into a Scandi-Cool way of doing things, with medical grade seats, a widely adjustable driving position, a round steering wheel, clear dials and a vertical touchscreen that’s relatively easy to navigate in the scheme of things but still makes you control too many functions from it, in the name of removing physical buttons. So it looks good, works satisfactorily and, at least, reacts quickly to inputs and remembers you’ve turned off lane keep assist the next time you get in the car. There’s a decent-sized boot and plenty of space in the back for grown adults to sit behind the same in the front.

There are adaptive dampers and drive modes, which are among the few things selectable via separate buttons on the centre console, slightly needlessly given that you’ll put it in one mode and leave it there for the next three years. And whichever mode it’s in, the S60 is a largely amiable companion, too. Mature, sophisticated and largely uncomplicated in feel.

As with the Volvo, it is safe to expect that pricing for the S60 would be around Rs 45-50 lakh (ex-showroom India) making it a rival to the C-Class territory. Germans take heed, we might have yet another game changing product from the Swede to take on your unrivalled sedan segment.

  The new McLaren GT unveiled.
Posted by: Shreyas Agarwal - Today, 11:44 PM - Forum: The International Automotive Scene - Replies (1)

McLaren, since 2010, has been on roll, launching cars and strengthening its presence in the Supercar market but until now, it had not been a serious name for the GT buyer, this now changes with the introduction of the McLaren GT, a true GT car (quite literally indeed  Smile).

McLaren has been quite expressive of its intentions about its entry into the GT market stating, "is poised to redefine the rules of the Grand tourer segment by introducing renowned McLaren engineering and dynamic attributes alongside high-quality materials and exceptional comfort.”
It is powered by the same 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 powering the 720S which has been now detuned to produce a promising 612 bhp @7500 rpm and 630 Nm of torque @ 5500 rpm. It is good for doing a 0-100 in 3.1 s, achieving a top speed of 326 km/h.
McLaren has very carefully altered the car’s carbon MonoCell II T chassis, to allow for an additional 5.3 cubic feet of space, clearly stating the GT's GT intentions. The GT provides a whopping 570 litres of boot space (comparable to the MG Hector SUV which boasts of the segment's largest 587-litre boot. Think about that in a car with a sexy body). A 420-litre boot under the glass tailgate and above that stonker of an engine and if that is not enough there is a 150-litre frunk too.
It doesn't come with a fancy hydraulically linked adaptive damper setup but instead gets adaptive dampers, and aluminium double wishbones, at the same time using a newer version of McLaren's Proactive Damping Control software. It uses sensors to read the road ahead, prepping the suspension as necessary in milliseconds. It can also vary the ground clearance at the front from 110 to 130 mm (like the system present in Audi A8).

The doors pleasingly are dihedral (another variety of eccentric sports car doors). Behind those lies, a more luxurious interior than other McLarens (but it still is largely based on the 720S), centred around plush electrically powered and heated seats made exclusively for the car.
Prices in the UK start from 1,63,000 pounds (Rs 1,46,70,000).

BMW launched the 4th generation X5 in India
Posted by: Varun_HexaGuy - Today, 09:46 PM - Forum: Luxury Cars and Bikes - No Replies

BMW launched the 4th generation X5 in India today. The fourth generation X5 is codenamed G05 and follows the latest design language used by BMW for all their new cars based on the G-series chassis.

Launched jointly by legendary sports person Mr. Sachin Tendulkar and Dr Hans- Christian Baertels, President BMW Group India, the all new X5 demonstrates modern design language from BMW.

On the occasion of launch, Dr. Baertels said “BMW established the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) segment with the launch of the X5 in 1999. The X5 has been the best selling car in this segment for many years and has become one of our most successful models. The fourth generation embodies this model’s typical characteristics- Versatility, Sovereignty and Luxury.”

The X5 is available in three variants, Sport, xLine and M Sport. The BMW X5 for now will be available in two diesel models and the petrol will be launched at a later date. All the engines would be in 3 litre configuration, with the diesels churning out 265 HP of power and 620 NM of Torque and the petrol churning out 340 HP of power and 450 NM of Torque.

On the design front, the new X5 features a restyled front bumper with a larger kidney design grille, new headlights and LED daytime running lights; all of which tie-in with BMW’s new design language. At the rear, the new X5 sports chunk LED tail-lights and a restyled rear bumper. The M-Sport pack for the petrol model adds more aggressive design themes. With boot capacity going right up to 1870 litres with rear seats down, this X5 is capable of hauling entire houses’ baggage with one go.

The new X5 is also larger than its predecessor in every dimension, which translates to increased interior space. The 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats helps boot space expand from 650 litres to 1,870 litres. Compared to the previous-gen model, the interior has received a major update as it gets an all-new dashboard layout that features two 12.3-inch digital screens. One of the screens replaces the analogue instrument cluster from the outgoing model with a fully digital unit. The other screen is the infotainment touchscreen display, which has also been updated.

With X5, BMW introduces a unique feature- “Crafted Clarity”- which is a host of operational features crafted in exquisite glass that embellish the insert of the gear selector, the iDrive control wheel, the audio control button and the start/stop button.

The ex-showroom prices are as follows :
  • BMW X5 xDrive30D Sport: Rs.72.90 Lacs
  • BMW X5 xDrive30 xLine: Rs.82.40 Lacs
  • BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport: Rs.82.40 Lacs

MG eZS spied testing on Indian tarmac!
Posted by: Shreyas Agarwal - Yesterday, 11:14 PM - Forum: Mainstream Cars and Bikes - No Replies

Last year, Rajeev Chaba, President, and MD, MG Motor India had hinted towards MG's intention to enter the non-existent EV market in India with its second launch. In accordance with this MG had announced the eZS' entry into India by December '19. Keeping up with the schedule, MG has begun testing the eZS in India. Camoflagued test mules have been spotted doing rounds in India for the first time.
MG eZS is MG's first and only EV globally unveiled at the Guangzhou Motor Show 2018. It is based on the conventionally powered ZS SUV. While there have been no details on the specifications of the vehicle, it is very likely to come with the same 148 bhp motor with 350 N.m torque and an NEDC range of 335 km powering the Chinese eZS. This range has been achieved through CATL dense Li-ion batteries. It can reach 50 km/h from 0 in 3.1s (though this number is irrelevant as 0-100 timings are more expressive). It can charge up to 80% in 30 minutes through a DC fast charger.
The eZS is largely similar to the ZS in looks except for the exclusive blue shade, 5 spoke alloy wheels, and the EV badging. It comes with a panoramic sunroof, disc brakes all around, 6 airbags, 8-inch touchscreen ICE, PM 2.5 purification system and LED DRLs. The MG ZS (not the eZS but it is likely to be similar) has also been rated a decent 3 star in the EURO NCAP. It is also likely to feature MG's connectivity features when launched in India. A figure £24,000  (Rs 21.68 lakhs) has been deduced for the UK market by driving electric. No speculations on the Indian price have been made yet.

In the meantime, Morris Garages has unveiled the Hector SUV in India.
